IS AI GOING TO REPLACE VIDEO PRODUCTION?
It’s a fair question, and we’re going to answer it honestly rather than just dismissing it.
AI in video production is already here and it’s now a part of how work gets made right now. The real question isn’t ‘whether AI belongs in the process’.
It’s what it can actually do, and what it can’t.
Where AI is most useful in video production
One area it’s having an impact is video editing. AI video editing tools are already changing parts of the workflow, and they’re doing it well.
Editing tasks that used to eat hours of time and budget can be sped up significantly.
Subtitles that once meant manual transcription now generate in minutes. Audio clean-up, background noise removal, levelling, all faster than it used to be.
Some tools can even help write early script drafts or assemble rough cuts to work from.
Used well, it frees up time for the parts of the job that actually need a person’s judgement, rather than replacing that judgement altogether.
WHAT AI CAN’T REPLICATE
The heart of great video is authenticity, and marketing works best when it feels human.
The more AI-generated content starts to feel artificial, the harder it becomes to build real trust with an audience.
Your audience can tell when something is AI. Even when they can’t articulate exactly why something feels off, they do feel it, and that feeling costs you the trust you were trying to build in the first place.
Great video storytelling isn’t a production task, it’s a human one.
It’s understanding an audience well enough to know what actually matters to them. It’s shaping a story with a beginning, a problem, and a payoff, rather than just stringing footage together. And it’s capturing real people sharing real expertise. The credibility comes from the fact that it’s genuinely them.
Storytelling still comes from people
That’s the part AI can’t replicate, and it’s not close to being able to.
Tools can process footage but they can’t read a room, build rapport with a nervous interviewee, or know when to ask one more follow-up question because the real answer hasn’t come out yet.
Human connection marketing depends entirely on that skill, and it’s still a person’s job.
THE TAKEAWAY
AI will definitely make video production faster. It already has. But the thing that actually makes a video impactful, the storytelling, still comes from people.
The tools are worth using. They’re just not the point of the work.
